Diplopia
Elaine Marie & Asanti Austin
Apr 19 - Apr 24 2011
People interested in perception have long struggled to explain what visual processing does to create what is actually seen. To provide clarity, the exhibit "Diplopia” showcases the differences and similarities between Asanti’ Austin and Elaine Marie. The mother and son team feature their respective works of art at the Ouchi Gallery of Brooklyn, April 19th at 7 pm. This exhibit explores the “simultaneous perception" of one vision by these two artists; "double vision" or Diplopia. Diplopia asks a series of intimate questions that bring the viewer inside a perplex mother/son relationship. How do they transfer information which multiplies vectors, aligns circles, bends lines and twists angles? Diplopia delves into questions of spirituality, self reflection, immortality and the effects of interactions with those who come into our lives and are replaced by temporary actors. Elaine Marie uses surrealistic imagery in vivid impressionistic color through lush pastel strokes as she explores themes of personal relationships. Whereas, Mr. Austin boldly steps in tandem with a projection of the fashion industry and its idiosyncrasies through satire, making a point of wizardry through erratic black lines breaking apart relationships. However, they find common stylistic ground in their artistic influences and passions. While not instantly obvious, their influences can be traced back to the Impressionists, Les Arts Décoratifs , Sandro Botticelli, Salvador Dali, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Japanese Lithographs and the beauty of the world around them. Truly a hot and cold relationship like their physical realities, Miami and New York, now mother and son see " eye to eye."

Emotions
Park Misoon
Mar 29 - Apr 3 2011
Mi-Soon Park was born in South Korea and moved to Tokyo in 2005 where she
has been living with her own job. She likes to use the warmth and texture
of wood cut ; either direct pressing or direct painting on wood panel based
on the digital painting . Most of all, the basic concept of her work is that
[Ugly = Beautiful]. Where is the definition of the beauty? Exploring
Aesthetics is accompanied by not only the beauty but also the circulation of
feelings and expression as well. The repetition and transformation of the
very new feelings, which are produced from the inner side, are reflected as
Expression that is sort of shapeless energy. She believes that the aesthetic
satisfaction from the freedom of expression is the way to communicate with
Aesthetics and her own identification. Right after learning at her design
college, Tokyo became her main stage where she holds an exhibition of her
works. Recently, she started the exhibition in New York & Seoul . and she
was honored by an art organization in Seoul with the art award in 2011.

Globally, children are thought of as cute, innocent, joyous creatures.
However, we know that there are many children who, for a myriad of reasons,
have been forced to face a reality that is stark and difficult although not without
some childhood pleasure.
Art Magnet, a non-profit organization sponsored by the New York Foundation
of the Arts, will be hosting a photography exhibit to benefit the children of Artists
For Charity (http://artistsforcharity.org/). AFC is an orphanage located in
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is home to children who are orphans and HIV positive.
The proceeds from the sale of the exhibit's photos will go to provide the children
with educational and other types of equipment. Several of the children are artists.
We also hope to sponsor a few of these individuals to New York for summer art
classes in 2011 or 2012.

Maiko Ida solo exhibition
Maiko Ida
Oct 12 - Oct 17 2010
Maiko Ida was born in Saitama, Japan. Ida started drawing on the papers like back of calendar and notepad at very young age. The main motif of her creation has been people from that age to now. She prepare for enter the art university to become an artist, but she retired take the test because she wondered about education in Japanese university of art: Most entrance test takers spend for years to pass the exam and usually they will take the class that is unrelated to they had studied at all, and after graduate very few of them are able to contribute to society. She land a job as a programer. However she realised that her drawing skill saves her life forever in the situation, so she determined to be an artist again. After that, she exhibit on event and solo exhibition around Tokyo and Saitama. She is influenced by Isaku Yanaihara, Haruki Murakami, Takashi Murakami, Dostevsky and Keith jarrett.
Art is a sensation that impinge greatly on persons life and its prime example is 'love'. So best art is the creation(or artistic action) mast give people love, and it is expressed in sympathy. Ida says "person" is the most sympathetic motif of "person" and she draws aspects on people's face when their heart came out from inner to surface. The reason why most of people her draws don't have hair is: hair is likely to reflect person taste and fashion of the day than person's expression so it makes hard to be caught common feelings of people expression bitween all ages of all around the world.
